Troop 202

Troop 202 regularly keeps the 'Outing' in scouting. Along with the monthly campouts, except December, the scouts have the opportunity to summer camp at camp Mitigwa, a Cold-Weather Adventure, a Junior High Adventure outing, and a High-Adventure outing.

Camp Mitigwa is a beautiful camp on the Des Moines River, located near Luther, Iowa. The camp has over 450 acres of rolling valleys and ridges and is a great place for a scout to learn, grow, and do new things. Throughout the week of camp, scouts can enjoy many activities including swimming, canoeing, fishing, handcrafting, rifle shooting, archery and for those scouts wanting a challenge, a thirty foot, five-sided Rappelling Tower and a C.O.P.E. course is available. The C.O.P.E (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience) course includes a 400’ Zip Line, 30’ Confidence Leap, Step Gap, Balance Beam and Skywalk events. Wednesday night is always parent' night allowing the scout to show off his camp. This is also the night for the Order of the Arrow Call Out Ceremony...always a hit with the Scouts.

The Junior High Adventure Program is an annual part of the troop plan. the trip permits scouts that are too young for the national high adventure bases to have a summer adventure on their own. In the past, scouts have hiked in the Black Hills in South Dakota, hiked in the Rocky Mountains, canoed in Wisconson Dells, and every trip is very memorable.

Troop 202 is involved with all the National High-Adventure Programs. We alternate between Philmont Scout Ranch, Sommers Canoe Base, and Florida Sea Base.

Troop 202Philmont Scout Ranch is a ten day backpacking trip in the New Mexico mountains. Scouts spend nights at various backcountry camps. At staffed camps, crews can participate in a variety of programs presented by Philmont backcountry staff. Among these programs are horseback riding, burro packing, gold panning, rock climbing, 30.06 rifle shooting, archaeology, mountain biking and interpretive programs such as homesteading and mountain man rendezvous. Scouts must be 14 by January 1 of the year attending Philmont.

Troop 202Troop 202 always have several crews attending the Sommers Canoe Base in Ely, Minnesota. The crews canoe in Minnesota and Quetico Provincial Park, Canada. This is a 10 day canoe trip to one of the most beautiful places in the world. The cres will chart their own path and live in the wild. Scouts must be 13 by the date of the trip.

Troop 202Troop 202 attends the Florida Sea Base when there is sufficient interest. This base is considerably more expensive and thereforeisnot offered on a regular basis. Scouts can choose from many Florida adventures, including sailing the Bahamas or the Florida coral reef, snorkeling in the Florida Keys, or scuba diving. This is another 10 day trip and scouts must be 14 by January 1 of the year attending.

Troop 202Our Cold-Weather Adventure takes us back to Northern Minnesota to the annual Okpik weekend adventure. Scouts have the opportunity to camp in a provided tent or make their own igloo. This is a three day weekend trip in January. Scouts must be 13 by the date of the trip.
